Pondalowie Bay Campground
Located only 3 hours from Adelaide on the Yorke Peninsula, Pondalowie Bay is the ideal spot for caravan campers wanting a beach getaway. Offering caravan campgrounds with only a short walk to the pristine beaches. Pondalowie Bay is a popular spot for; surfing, fishing, boating and snorkelling.
Additionally, all caravan sites at Pondalowie are flat with hard gravel surfaces – you don’t need a 4wd to get to this slice of paradise! The site also has toilet facilities and a public phone. However, there is only 25 spots at this campground and Australia Day weekend is always busy. Make sure you check availability, book online and arrive early to get the best spot.
Rapid Bay Campground
The perfect getaway destination for caravan camping on a tight schedule. Rapid Bay Campground is the perfect coastal retreat and only a 2-hour drive from Adelaide. If the kids don’t like long drives, this would be a great spot to take them!
The campgrounds at Rapid Bay are grassed with no designated sites – get in early to score the best spot! The sites are also unpowered and don’t offer much shade. If you’re caravan camping, this shouldn’t phase you at all.
Furthermore, camping at Rapid Bay is super affordable with only a $6 fee per adult. A great price for a pristine beach getaway.
Wilpena Pound Campground
If you don’t mind longer drives and you’re up for an adventure, Wilpena Pound offers great caravan camping in the bush. Just over a 5 hours’ drive from Adelaide, Wilpena Pound has both powered and unpowered camping sites. As well as amenities blocks, laundry facilities and a general store.
This caravan camping spot would be great for a long weekend getaway if you’re up for the drive. However, a few extra days there would allow you to well and truly explore the Flinders Ranges and all it’s beauty.
In addition, unpowered camping sites start from $14 and powered sites start from $25.
Daly Head Campground
Also located 3 hours from Adelaide, the Daly Head campground on the Yorke Peninsula is the perfect long weekend getaway. The campground has large grass sites that are great for caravan camping and overlook the beach below. If you’re wanting to get down to the beach, you’ll have to take on the wooden staircase nearby – once you’re down you won’t want to walk back up! The campground is also dog friendly and there is one drop toilet there.
Camping at Daly Head is only $10 per vehicle per night.
Post Long Weekend Getaway
Once your camping trip has come to an end, it’s time to start thinking about storing your caravan. You may be going camping over the March long weekend or Easter long weekend but need somewhere to store your caravan until then.
